4.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Northern Pakistan

People in northern Pakistan felt tremors on Sunday afternoon after a 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck the region. The earthquake’s epicentre was in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan, a place known for frequent seismic activity. The quake occurred at around 2:50 p.m. and had a depth of 60 kilometres. Although it caused momentary fear among residents, there were no reports of damage or injuries.

In cities like Islamabad and surrounding areas, people quickly left their homes and buildings when the ground began to shake. Many were seen reciting prayers as a safety measure, a common reaction during such events in the region. Authorities later confirmed that the tremors were caused by an earthquake in the Hindu Kush area, which often experiences mild to moderate earthquakes that also affect parts of Pakistan.

Interestingly, this earthquake came just one day after a stronger 5.5-magnitude quake had already shaken parts of the country. That earlier quake hit on Saturday and was felt in several major cities, including Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The epicentre of that tremor was about 60 kilometres northwest of Rawalpindi, at a much shallower depth of just 12 kilometres. People felt the shaking in cities such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat, and several others.

These back-to-back earthquakes are a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity and the importance of preparedness in the face of natural events. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, and citizens are urged to stay cautious and follow safety guidelines during any future tremors.
