50m saplings to be planted in Punjab during monsoon

According to the news, the Punjab Govt has established a target of planting 50 million saplings in the monsoon tree plantation campaign that would be officially started in the 3rd week of July & will continue till December.

On Wednesday, at the Civil Secretariat, Sabtain Khan-Punjab Minister for Forests & Jawwad Rafique Malik-Chief Secretary Punjab combinedly chaired the meeting to analyze the arrangements for the campaign.

The secretaries of various departments involving local government, irrigation, school’s education, higher education participated in the meeting and at the same time the divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners & the director generals of parks & horticulture experts joined the meeting via video link.

As per the statement of the chief secretary stated that the appropriate arrangements should be put in place to monitor a sapling after its plantation, guiding the forest secretary to develop a mechanism for monitoring the growth of plants with the aid of modern technology.

While addressing the meeting, the provincial minister stated that the Punjab Govt was taking steps to enhance forests consistent with the vision of PM. He added that in accordance with the “Khidmat Aap Ki Dehliz Per” program, tree planting week was being examined throughout the province from July 12 to July 18 & as many as 380,000 saplings would be planted throughout the week.
