Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has released the results for the first-year commerce examination. About 58% of students still need to pass all seven subjects, despite the addition of 15% grace marks from the government.
Prior to the addition of the grace marks, the original result showed that 66% of students failed to clear all seven exams of the BIEK Intermediate Part 1 Annual Examination for Commerce Regular Group 2023.
The passing ratio for Commerce Group students turned out to be very low, with the passing percentage only increasing to 42% from 34% after the addition of grace marks.
A committee formed under the direction of the BIEK chairman recommended that 15% grace marks be given in four core exams to improve the students’ passing ratio.
The committee was formed due to objections raised by students, parents, and political parties, over the results and called for a thorough investigation.
The committee found gross irregularities in the marking system and the software for checking the MCQs. They recommended an inquiry by NAB or Sindh Anti-Corruption against the Board.
However, the government abstained from opening a can of worms against its own planted officers.
