92 percent of Pakistan’s motorways are dangerous to travel on, according to the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has determined that 92% of the country’s highways are dangerous to travel on. While dismissing a National Highway Authority (NHA) assessment on the country’s highways as unacceptable, the top justice noted that the government has abandoned all highways except the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway.

During the trial, the court requested the NHA to explain why police were not stationed on the Quetta-Karachi highway for passenger safety. It went on to say that the state of highways could risk people’s lives.

The bench ordered that the state of the Quetta-Karachi road be completely improved. It went on to say that the quality of work done by reflectors and line markers on highways was poor.

Rain had wiped away the road markings, according to the chief justice. In the newspapers, the Chitral-Gilgit Road was shown to be completed, but in reality, there was no such road. He inquired as to why the Quetta-Karachi Road was not constructed in the manner of a highway.

He stated that all routes save the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway had been left unattended. He said that the Chitral-Gilgit Road was made up entirely of rocks and that a car could not travel on it.
