Karachi to Get 180 Solar-Powered Electric Busses

The Sindh government plans to introduce 180 solar-powered electric buses on the feeder routes of the Bus Rapid Transit Service in Karachi. This initiative aims to offer efficient and eco-friendly public transportation while discontinuing the operational subsidy for public transport.

Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, in a meeting with an Asian Development Bank (ADB) delegation, emphasized the positive impact of electric buses on cleaner transportation.

The project, aligned with the government’s focus on climate change, plans to launch electric buses on BRT feeder routes, with operations starting at the end of December 2023. The ADB expressed support for the project, which includes the integration of existing and future BRT lines.

Additionally, the CM discussed the water-stressed situation in Karachi and the West Karachi Recycled Water Project with the ADB, highlighting the need for further investment in water supply and treatment infrastructure.
