When Microsoft stops supporting Windows 10, about 240 million computers might be thrown away, creating a lot of electronic waste, says Canalys Research.
This waste could be as heavy as 480 million kilograms, like 320,000 cars. Even if some computers still work, without security updates, not many people might want them.
Microsoft plans to give security updates until October 2028 for a cost, but if it’s expensive to switch to Windows 11, old computers might end up in the trash. Microsoft is making this change to introduce Windows 11, which has more advanced AI technology.
