Pakistan’s newly elected Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, is committed to strengthening the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China.
In his first interview with a foreign media outlet since taking office, Sharif emphasized his intent to collaborate with China through “thick and thin” to advance the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Sharif expressed his gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping for his congratulatory message on his reelection. He stressed the importance of cooperation between the two nations and stressed his desire to take the relationship to “higher heights” and build on past successes.
The CPEC has been a major focus of the Pakistan-China relationship in recent years. The project is expected to create new opportunities for trade and investment in both countries. Under the initiative, several infrastructure projects, including roads, railways, and pipelines, are being developed.
With Pakistan facing economic and security challenges, the CPEC is seen as a key opportunity to boost growth and development while also strengthening ties with one of its closest allies.
