Pakistan won two bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad 2024 held in Astana, Kazakhstan. The medals were achieved by Zoha Asif from Karachi and Soban Safdar from Mirpur Mathelo, marking a significant achievement for both students.
The team representing Pakistan was supported by the STEM Careers program, which provided extensive training for the competition. Dr. Asma Imran and Dr. Amir Ali from NIBGE (National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering) trained the students, emphasizing rigorous preparation through training camps organized by PIEAS (Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences).
Pakistan has been actively participating in the International Biology Olympiad since 2001, contributing to a total of 134 medals won over the years. This consistent participation reflects the country’s commitment to fostering excellence in biology education and promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) among its youth.
