Virat Kohli and Babar Azam Soon to Play Together in Afro-Asia Cup?

The Afro-Asia Cup could soon make a grand comeback, and cricket fans are buzzing with excitement over the possibility of star players like Virat Kohli and Babar Azam sharing the same team. This revival, which has been under discussion for some time, may bring together top talent from the subcontinent and Africa, rekindling memories of the previous editions in 2005 and 2007.

The Afro-Asia Cup was initially launched with much fanfare, featuring an Asia XI and Africa XI. However, after two successful tournaments, it was shelved due to broadcasting and organizational challenges. With renewed efforts from cricket bodies, especially following the appointment of Jay Shah as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman, the return of this tournament is looking more likely than ever.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is also expected to take a prominent role at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which could further strengthen the chances of the tournament’s revival. Many believe that the return of the Afro-Asia Cup would not only provide thrilling matches but also help bridge political and cultural divides through the universal appeal of cricket.

Samod Damodar, Chairman of the African Cricket Association (ACA), expressed his disappointment that the tournament had been discontinued but remains hopeful about its return.

He highlighted how such events could play a significant role in fostering better relations between countries, saying, “These matches could break down barriers that are there politically. Cricket can help build bridges rather than burn them.”

If the Afro-Asia Cup is revived, it would be a rare opportunity for fans to witness players like Kohli, Babar, and Shaheen Afridi on the same team, potentially alongside South African and Zimbabwean stars. With the excitement building, all eyes are on the cricket boards to finalize the details and bring back this iconic tournament.
