Govt Announces Three Public Holidays Over Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit

The federal government has declared three public holidays in Islamabad and Rawalpindi from October 14 to 16 due to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

The summit will take place on October 15 and 16, with representatives from member countries attending, including Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and leaders from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Iran. During this time, all schools, colleges, and government offices in the area will be closed.

Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi recently chaired a high-level meeting to discuss security arrangements for the summit. He stressed the significance of the event and the need for tight security measures to ensure its smooth running. Extra personnel from various security forces will be deployed to maintain order during the summit.

The public holidays are intended to help manage the increased security and minimize disruption for residents while international delegates are in town.

The government is making extensive efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for the summit, which is seen as an important event for building cooperation and strengthening ties among SCO member nations. The summit is expected to be a significant step forward in regional collaboration and diplomacy.
