Pakistan’s Largest Oil Refinery PARCO to Shut Down for Almost 40 Days

Pakistan’s largest oil refinery, PARCO, has temporarily shut down for maintenance work, which will last for 38 days from October 10 to November 18.

PARCO has a refining capacity of around 120,000 barrels per day and is a vital part of Pakistan’s energy supply, providing about 35-40% of the country’s fuel needs. To ensure that the energy supply remains stable during this period, other refineries have been asked to increase their production to make up for the shutdown.

In addition, the government will rely on a 26-day storage of oil to manage demand during the refinery’s downtime. This stored fuel will help ensure that the country’s energy supply remains uninterrupted.

The maintenance work at the PARCO refinery has been contracted to Descon, a private company. During this period, the refinery will undergo thorough inspections, repairs, and upgrades to ensure it continues to operate efficiently in the future.

This scheduled maintenance is essential to keeping the refinery in good working condition and meeting Pakistan’s long-term energy needs. The temporary shutdown is part of regular maintenance and should not cause major disruptions in the country’s fuel supply.
