PCB Plans on Appointing Jason Gillespie as Pakistan’s All-Format Head Coach: Report

PCB is considering appointing Jason Gillespie as the all-format head coach for the national cricket team, depending on the team’s performance in the current white-ball series in Australia. Gillespie, who is already Pakistan’s Test head coach, took on the role of interim white-ball coach after Gary Kirsten unexpectedly resigned.

The PCB is closely watching how the team performs in the ongoing One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia, as this could influence their final decision. If the team shows strong results, Gillespie may be officially offered the all-format coaching position, with a potential contract lasting until at least April 2025. This would mean he could continue guiding the team across all formats of the game, ensuring a consistent coaching approach.

Gillespie has already gained positive feedback from players and officials, who appreciate his coaching style and the experience he brings from his successful cricketing career and coaching roles with other teams. However, the PCB wants to be sure he is the right fit for the team in all formats, which is why they are using this series as a test of his suitability.

A final decision regarding his future as the head coach is expected to be announced soon, most likely before Pakistan’s upcoming series in Zimbabwe. If appointed, Gillespie’s continued guidance could play a key role in shaping the team’s strategy and performance over the next year and a half.
