Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has presented a cash reward of Rs 5 million to Ijaz Hussain, a senior officer at the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), for uncovering a significant tax fraud attempt. The fraud involved billions of rupees in sales tax and used the credentials of an 80-year-old woman. Ijaz identified and reported the fraud on March 4, 2024, helping to prevent a major financial loss.
In recognition of his honesty and dedication, the Prime Minister praised Ijaz’s actions and awarded him an honorary shield. He also made it clear that anyone who assists tax evaders will face serious consequences.
The investigation into the matter is still ongoing. One suspect has already been arrested, and the FBR is working to identify and take action against others involved, including any officers who might have been complicit in the fraud. This case highlights the FBR’s commitment to combating corruption and ensuring that all individuals involved in illegal tax activities are held accountable.
Prime Minister Sharif’s gesture also serves as a reminder that integrity and transparency are crucial in the fight against financial fraud, and that those who work to uncover such crimes will be recognized and rewarded for their efforts.
