Punjab Sets 60 km/h Speed Limit for Motorcycles to Enhance Road Safety

The Punjab government has set a new speed limit of 60 km/h for motorcycles across the province to improve road safety. This decision was taken during the 22nd Provincial Cabinet meeting on January 14, 2025, under Section 75(2) of the Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1960.

Transport Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch has issued a notification directing traffic authorities to enforce the new speed limit strictly. The goal is to reduce road accidents and ensure safer travel for motorcyclists and other road users.

To monitor the impact of this rule, the Punjab Emergency Services Department will submit crash reports to the Chief Minister’s Office every two weeks. This will help track progress and make further improvements if needed.

Additionally, the government plans to launch public awareness campaigns to educate people about the importance of following the speed limit. These efforts aim to encourage responsible driving habits and reduce the number of accidents on Punjab’s roads.

By enforcing this rule and raising awareness, the Punjab government hopes to make roads safer for everyone.
