Pakistan’s National Logistics Corporation (NLC) has launched the country’s first containerized flag carrier shipping service for trade with Gulf countries. This is a major step in strengthening Pakistan’s maritime trade and making cargo transport easier for exporters and importers.
The new service provides a direct shipping route between Karachi, Jebel Ali (Dubai), and Dammam (Saudi Arabia). This will help Pakistani businesses by offering a faster and more reliable way to trade with the Gulf region.
The shipping service has started with two cargo vessels, each capable of carrying 1,120 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). These ships will operate on a 10-day round-trip schedule, ensuring regular cargo movement. This is the first time a Pakistani company has launched its own direct shipping service for trade with the Gulf, reducing dependence on foreign shipping lines.
An inauguration ceremony was held at Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited, where senior officials from NLC, the shipping industry, and the business community were present. The event marked a significant achievement for Pakistan’s trade and logistics sector.
One of the key advantages of this service is that slot payments can be made in Pakistani rupees, making transactions easier and reducing the need for foreign currency. This will benefit businesses by cutting costs and simplifying financial dealings.
With this new shipping service, Pakistan’s trade with the Gulf is expected to grow, creating more opportunities for local businesses and improving the country’s logistics network. The initiative reflects Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its maritime industry, making trade smoother and more efficient for all involved.
