Pak-German energy cooperation grows

As per the statement made by Muhammad Hammad Azhar- Federal Minister for Energy, collaboration in the energy sector between Pakistan & Germany has energy sector grown.

On Wednesday, While speaking with Bernhard Schlangheck- German Ambassador, the minister respected the latest signing of the application agreement for GIZ Pakistan’s Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency-II (REEE-II) project worth €8.1 million.

While Speaking on the occasion, the German ambassador applauded the efforts being made by the government of Pakistan in the energy sector.

He reaffirmed the commitment of his country to further improve the current partnership with Pakistan in the energy sector.

“The new Renewable Energy Policy approved by the Council of Common Interests is a major milestone in the energy transition of Pakistan, the policy will drive a substantial shift to renewable sources in the power generation capacity.” Said Muhammad Hammad Azhar.

“Our aim is to further improve the transmission and distribution system to cater to the needs of generation capacity,” said the minister.

He added that a remarkable growth of around 20% in consumer want & nearly 15% in industrial demand for electricity generated new problems and challanges in the energy sector.

He explained that the renewable energy element in the total energy mixture would boost from the current 6percent to 20percent by 2025 and 30percent by 2030. Further, the minister described the German emissary of the numerous continuing projects which the Govt had started in the energy sector.
