A new video has shed light on the possible cause of the tragic Air India plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad on June 15, claiming the lives of 270 passengers. The flight, AI-171, crashed shortly after takeoff, and investigators have been searching for answers ever since.
The footage, captured moments before the crash, shows a small grey object emerging from beneath the aircraft. Aviation expert and former pilot Captain Steve believes this detail is crucial. According to him, the object seen in the video is the Ram Air Turbine (RAT)—a backup emergency system that activates only when a plane loses all engine power or suffers a complete hydraulic failure.
Captain Steve explained that the RAT is a small, fast-spinning fan that drops down automatically in critical situations to restore temporary electrical and hydraulic power to the aircraft. Its appearance in the video so soon after takeoff suggests a serious failure may have occurred almost immediately after the plane left the runway.
Adding to the concern, the cockpit crew had issued a “Mayday” distress signal just seconds after takeoff, indicating they faced a major technical problem right away. While Captain Steve refrained from confirming the exact cause, he believes a dual engine failure is a likely scenario based on what’s been observed so far.
Though official investigations are ongoing, the video has become a key piece of evidence, offering fresh insight into the incident. As authorities continue to examine the data, this clue may prove vital in understanding what truly went wrong in one of the worst aviation tragedies in recent years.
