The Punjab government has launched its biggest road development program in the province’s history. Under this massive initiative, 18,700 kilometers of roads across 1,471 routes are being upgraded to improve transportation and connectivity.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif shared that 12,000 kilometers of roads have already been completed. The full project is expected to be finished by December 2025, helping to transform the province’s road network.
What makes this project even more impressive is its cost-efficiency. Although the original budget for the project was Rs600 billion, the government has managed to complete the work so far using just Rs70 billion. This reflects a 97% utilization of funds and a 20% reduction in overall costs—something rarely seen in projects of this scale.
The initiative is not just about building more roads—it also focuses on using modern technology and improving road quality. New expressways are being developed, and digital toll systems are being introduced to make travel faster and smoother. Technologies such as road profilers and speed radars are being used to ensure construction quality and road safety.
Additionally, the government is making use of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models. This means that private companies are also contributing to the construction and maintenance of these roads, which helps share the responsibility and speed up the work.
Besides roads, the Punjab government is also making progress in other major areas. New hospitals, industrial zones, and infrastructure projects are being completed in different parts of the province. These projects aim to improve public services, create jobs, and support economic growth in both urban and rural areas.
This large-scale development plan shows the government’s strong focus on progress, smart governance, and better services for the people of Punjab.
