Sui Gas Fixed Charges Update: What to Expect in Your Next Bill Starting July?

Starting July 1, many households in Pakistan will notice an increase in their gas bills not because they used more gas, but because the government is changing the fixed monthly charges. This means that no matter how much or how little gas you use, your base cost will now be higher.

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the revised gas pricing structure which was proposed by the Petroleum Division for the fiscal year 2025–26. The main change? A significant jump in fixed charges for all domestic users.

Here’s a quick look at the new rates:

  • Households that were paying Rs. 400 will now be charged Rs. 600
  • Those previously paying Rs. 1,000 will pay Rs. 1,500
  • The highest slab will go from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,000

While the per-unit gas price remains the same, the increased fixed cost is expected to impact households across the country. According to officials, the new rates are necessary to recover the expenses related to maintaining and upgrading the gas infrastructure.

However, this decision comes at a time when inflation is already high, and many families are struggling with rising costs of basic goods. The business sector has also pushed back, saying the price hike is unfair, especially when global fuel prices are falling and there’s no shortage of imported gas.

As the federal cabinet prepares to give its final approval, millions of gas consumers are bracing for a costlier month ahead.
