Microsoft is reportedly shutting down its operations in Pakistan after working in the country for 25 years. This news has raised concerns in Pakistan’s technology and business circles, as the company played an important role in supporting the country’s digital development.
Jawwad Rehman, the first Country Manager of Microsoft Pakistan, confirmed the closure. He described it as the end of an era and appreciated how Microsoft had contributed to Pakistan’s journey toward digital transformation over the years.
The decision to close down appears to be connected to several challenges, including Pakistan’s ongoing economic problems and difficulties faced by foreign companies due to changing government regulations. These issues have made it harder for international businesses to continue operating in the country.
At the global level, Microsoft is also making major changes. The company is laying off more than 9,000 employees worldwide. Some of the biggest job cuts are happening in its gaming division, and Microsoft is also cancelling several upcoming projects such as Perfect Dark and Everwild. These steps are part of a larger plan to focus on areas that support the company’s long-term goals and future growth.
