The Foreign Office has announced that Sweden will restart its visa services in Pakistan, beginning July 7, 2025. This means Pakistani citizens can once again apply for Schengen visas for visits of up to 90 days.
Visa services had been suspended since April 2023, when the Swedish embassy in Islamabad closed due to security concerns. Since then, Pakistani travelers were unable to apply for Swedish visas directly from Pakistan.
The decision to resume these services was made during recent discussions between Pakistan and Sweden. The talks took place in Stockholm on July 2, where senior officials from both countries’ foreign ministries met to discuss various issues, including consular matters.
The Foreign Office welcomed Sweden’s decision, calling it a positive development in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries. They expressed hope that this step would help improve people-to-people contact and promote cooperation in different fields, including education, tourism, and business.
With the visa services restarting, applicants can now submit their applications for short visits to Sweden directly from Pakistan. The services are expected to make travel easier for students, professionals, tourists, and families looking to visit their loved ones in Sweden.
Officials from both sides agreed to continue working together to enhance cooperation and mutual understanding. They also discussed regional and global issues of shared interest.
This move marks an important step forward in rebuilding diplomatic and travel links between Pakistan and Sweden, offering new opportunities for citizens of both countries.
