Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day was celebrated in Auckland with a grand event attended by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and nearly 1,000 members of the Pakistani community living in the country.
The ceremony brought together community leaders, officials, and dignitaries, including Opposition Leader Chris Hipkins and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Faisal Aziz Ahmed.
During his address, PM Luxon congratulated Pakistan on its Independence Day and highlighted the positive role of the Pakistani community in New Zealand’s development.
He praised their contributions in various fields and emphasized that their efforts have helped strengthen ties between the two nations.
Opposition Leader Chris Hipkins also took the opportunity to commend the Pakistani community, noting their role in building cultural connections and enhancing bilateral relations.
The celebration was marked by traditional festivities that reflected Pakistan’s rich heritage. A flag-hoisting ceremony was held, followed by cultural performances, poetry recitations, and patriotic songs that created a vibrant atmosphere. Guests and participants enjoyed the sense of unity and pride shared among the community.
As a gesture of goodwill, shawls were presented to dignitaries attending the event. Additionally, a new community website was launched, aimed at promoting stronger connections within the Pakistani diaspora in New Zealand and providing a platform to highlight cultural and social initiatives.
The event not only celebrated Pakistan’s independence but also served as a reminder of the deepening relationship between the two countries, strengthened by the active participation and contributions of the Pakistani community in New Zealand.
