The Punjab government has taken a major step toward modernizing policing and traffic management by adopting Japan’s smart police system. This move aims to bring global best practices to Pakistan and ensure safer, faster, and more efficient services for the public.
During her recent visit to Tokyo, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally studied Japan’s advanced emergency response and policing models. Impressed by their efficiency and use of technology, she announced that Punjab will implement a similar system, beginning with Lahore as the pilot city.
The smart traffic system in Lahore will include improved surveillance, automated response tools, and real-time data sharing between departments. These features will allow authorities to monitor the city more closely, react quickly during emergencies, and manage traffic in a more organized way.
To make the system even more advanced, Punjab plans to use infrared and ultrasonic technologies for traffic and safety monitoring. Citizens will also benefit from virtual police stations and mobile applications that will provide important services at their fingertips.
Instead of waiting in long queues or visiting police stations physically, people will be able to use these apps to register complaints, request help, and access other services quickly.
The overall goal of this initiative is to enhance public safety, reduce response times in emergencies, and promote digital policing across Punjab.
By learning from Japan’s successful model, the government hopes to create a smarter, more transparent, and more reliable policing system that meets the needs of today’s fast-paced world.
