Punjab Announces Public Holiday on September 6

The Punjab government has declared Friday, September 6, as a public holiday across the province in connection with Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

According to the official notification, all public offices, educational institutions, and administrative departments will remain closed on this day.

The government has, however, directed that emergency departments in hospitals continue to provide services without interruption to ensure healthcare facilities are available to the public. Outpatient departments and other routine hospital services will remain closed for the day.

This announcement came after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the start of the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal on August 26.

The committee, which held its meeting in Karachi under the leadership of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, confirmed that the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the day Muslims around the world commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) — will fall on September 6 this year.

The moon-sighting meeting was attended by representatives of different institutions, including the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Meteorological Department, SUPARCO, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi is observed with great religious devotion in Pakistan. Mosques, streets, and homes are decorated with lights, and gatherings are organized to highlight the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

With the holiday announcement, large processions and special events are expected across Punjab on the day.

The government urged citizens to celebrate the occasion peacefully and to follow the true spirit of unity and compassion that marks this sacred day.
