PMDC Announces Maximum Annual Tuition Fee for Medical and Dental Colleges

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has officially announced a new maximum annual tuition fee of Rs. 1.89 million for medical and dental colleges for the 2025–26 academic session. The revised fee reflects a 5% increase from last year’s cap of Rs. 1.8 million.

According to the notification, issued under the PMDC Act 2022, the adjustment aligns with recommendations made by the Medical Education Committee established by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Starting from 2026–27, future revisions will be tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to ensure a fair, inflation-based structure.

The PMDC has directed all private medical and dental colleges to publicly display their approved fee structures at least three months before admissions begin, in line with Section 20(7) of the PMDC Act.

Strict action has been warned against any institution found violating the new regulations, including suspension of accreditation, admission restrictions, or further legal measures under Section 33 of the Act.

The issue of rising tuition fees has been a long-standing concern among parents and students. The Senate Standing Committee on Health intervened last year after complaints about steep hikes, prompting the government to cap fees at Rs. 1.8 million for 2024–25.

With the new update, PMDC aims to balance quality education with affordability, ensuring transparency and fairness in Pakistan’s medical and dental education sector.
