Punjab Announces Monthly Package for College Teaching Interns

The Punjab government has introduced a major financial support program for college teaching interns, approving a stipend package of Rs. 4.217 billion to assist young educators across the province. The initiative will provide monthly stipends to over 8,000 interns currently serving in public sector colleges.

According to official details, interns teaching at the intermediate level will now earn Rs. 55,000 per month, while those engaged at the BS level will receive Rs 65,000 monthly.

The internship will last seven months for intermediate classes and ten months for BS programs. Upon completion, each participant will be awarded an experience certificate recognizing their contribution to the education sector.

The program also reflects the government’s focus on inclusivity, with dedicated quotas for underrepresented groups. A total of 404 positions have been set aside for minorities, 243 for persons with disabilities, and 40 for the transgender community. These quotas ensure equal opportunities and representation within Punjab’s higher education system.

Officials noted that the entire Rs. 4.217 billion budget will cover both stipend disbursements and administrative costs, ensuring that interns receive their payments promptly.

The initiative has been welcomed by educators and students alike, as it not only provides financial relief to interns but also helps address faculty shortages in government colleges.

By empowering young teachers and promoting diversity in education, the Punjab government aims to improve teaching standards and strengthen academic development across the province.
