Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has appointed Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman to oversee the management of sealed mosques across the province.
This decision aims to ensure transparency and proper administration in mosque affairs while promoting unity and peace among different communities.
As part of this initiative, the Chief Minister also announced a monthly stipend of Rs. 25,000 for 65,000 mosque Imams. The step is designed to support religious leaders financially, allowing them to focus on their responsibilities without depending solely on public donations.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted the government’s respect for all religious symbols and traditions. She assured that the Azaan (call to prayer) and Friday sermons will continue as usual, reflecting the government’s commitment to preserving religious freedom and harmony.
She further stated that religion should always be a source of unity, not division. The Chief Minister encouraged all communities to work together for peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.
This initiative represents a major shift in how mosque affairs are managed in Punjab, blending administrative accountability with social welfare.
By supporting religious leaders through a structured stipend program, the government aims to strengthen their role in guiding communities positively while maintaining transparency in religious institutions.
