A major discovery has been reported in Pakistan: gold reserves worth $636 billion are said to have been found at Tarbela, according to Hanif Gohar, Chairman of Air Karachi. The finding, if verified, could become one of the most significant mineral discoveries in the country’s history.
Gohar stated that the discovery has been reported to the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the State Bank of Pakistan for further review and official confirmation. He added that Australian and Canadian drilling companies have already been approached for exploration and feasibility studies.
Once formal government approval is granted, the extraction process is expected to begin, which could take several years to complete. Experts believe that the potential value of these reserves could help reduce Pakistan’s foreign debt and significantly improve the country’s economic outlook.
In addition to this major announcement, Air Karachi is preparing to launch domestic flight operations from March 23, 2026, starting with a fleet of 3–5 Airbus aircraft. The airline also plans to expand into international routes after one year of successful domestic operations.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad is witnessing its first-ever four-star hotel project, signaling growing investment and development activity in Pakistan’s tourism and aviation sectors.
If confirmed, the Tarbela gold discovery could mark a turning point for Pakistan’s economy, bringing new opportunities in mining, employment, and infrastructure development.
