A distribution box connected to the Karachi Safe City cameras has reportedly been stolen from the Clifton area, near Sea Rock Apartments.
The theft took place at a site where the cameras were not yet operational. According to police, the suspects used a vehicle fitted with a crane to carry out the incident, making it a planned and organized act.
DIG South Asad Raza stated that the stolen equipment was installed at a significant height, which means it could not have been removed by a single person. He added that the area did not have proper street lighting or private CCTV cameras, making it harder for investigators to identify or trace the culprits.
Police teams have started investigating the case and are trying to locate the vehicle involved in the theft. They believe that once the vehicle is identified, it will help lead them to the group responsible.
The Karachi Safe City Project, launched in 2024, was designed to improve citywide security through advanced surveillance systems.
The project includes installing high-tech cameras and monitoring systems across different parts of Karachi to help law enforcement respond more effectively to crimes and emergencies.
Officials say this theft highlights the challenges of protecting newly installed public safety infrastructure. Despite the setback, authorities remain committed to expanding the project into other key areas such as DHA, South, East, and Malir.
Police have assured that security will be tightened at all installation sites to prevent similar incidents in the future.
