Pakistan’s federal cabinet has set up a special committee to review the future of the Rs10 currency note. The committee is led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and has been given the task of studying whether it still makes sense to keep the Rs10 note in circulation.
One of the main points under review is the cost of producing the Rs. 10 note. The committee will compare these costs with the option of replacing the note with a Rs. 10 coin.
Since coins usually last longer than paper notes, the government wants to see if a coin would be a more practical and cost-effective solution in the long run. After completing its review, the committee will submit its recommendations to the cabinet, which will then make a final decision.
At the same time, the government is also moving forward with plans to launch a newly redesigned series of currency notes.
These new notes are being developed to reflect Pakistan’s heritage, cultural diversity, and national progress. The aim is to present a modern look while still highlighting the country’s identity and values.
The redesigned notes will include advanced security features to help prevent counterfeiting and improve overall safety. Modern technology is being used in their design to meet international standards. The new series will be issued in denominations of Rs100, Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000, and Rs. 5,000.
Together, these steps show the government’s broader effort to modernize Pakistan’s currency system. By reviewing low-value notes and introducing secure, well-designed banknotes, the authorities hope to improve durability, reduce costs, and strengthen public trust in the country’s currency.
