Pakistan ready to ship rice to China

According to SM Naveed, President of the Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI), Pakistan is ready to sell 3.75 million tons of rice to China after satisfying yearly domestic consumption of 2.5 million tons.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, China has emerged as one of Pakistan’s top rice export destinations, evidenced by a 244 percent growth in paddy shipments to the neighbor in the last two years.

He went on to say that the PCJCCI had started a plan to boost exports to China in a year.

“If persistent efforts to sell Pakistani rice are pursued, concentrating on the needs of the Chinese population, the dream of exporting roughly 10 million tons of Irri-6 rice to China could become a reality,” the PCJCCI chief added.

Mr. Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary-General of the PCJCCI, stated that the PCJCCI would embark on a concerted effort to sell Pakistani rice in China by developing a personalized demand among Chinese consumers.

PCJCCI Senior Vice President Daud Ahmed said in the same statement that new hybrid rice varieties are being developed in Pakistan to provide maximum yield with minimal input costs during water constraints.
