Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has criticized Babar Azam’s leadership style, saying that a cricket team cannot be run by showing a “tough-guy” image like Maula Jatt. According to Akhtar, leading a national team requires much more than attitude or aggression.
He suggested that simply appearing strong or fearless does not guarantee success as a captain. While confidence is important, Akhtar believes that effective leadership is based on smart planning, clear communication, and strong decision-making skills.
A captain must understand the strengths and weaknesses of each player and create strategies that bring out the best performance from the whole team.
Akhtar also pointed out that charisma and individual style may impress fans, but they are not enough to manage a team at the highest level.
He emphasized that leadership involves taking responsibility, handling pressure calmly, and being accountable for results. A captain should guide players, solve problems during matches, and maintain unity within the squad.
In his view, managing a national cricket side is a serious responsibility. It demands discipline, teamwork and careful thinking rather than relying on intimidation or emotional displays.
Akhtar’s remarks have sparked debate among cricket fans, with many discussing what qualities truly define a strong and successful captain in international cricket.
