The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed mobile network operators to stop increasing the prices of their packages on a monthly basis after receiving numerous complaints from consumers across the country. Many users had expressed frustration over the frequent and sudden price hikes in call, SMS, and internet bundles, saying the repeated increases were placing additional financial pressure on millions of mobile subscribers.
Under the newly introduced policy, telecom companies such as Jazz, Ufone, and Zong will now be allowed to revise the prices of their call, SMS, and data packages only once every three months instead of making changes every month. The move is intended to reduce the burden on consumers and bring greater stability to the telecommunications market, where users had been facing constant adjustments in package rates.
Officials said the decision was taken after reviewing public complaints and monitoring market trends. The authority believes that limiting price revisions to a quarterly basis will prevent sudden fluctuations and give consumers more predictable and transparent pricing. It will also encourage telecom operators to plan their pricing strategies more carefully rather than making frequent adjustments.
In addition to restricting how often prices can be changed, PTA has also made it mandatory for telecom companies to seek prior approval before introducing new packages or altering the rates of existing ones.
