A sessions court in Lahore has ordered singer Meesha Shafi to pay Rs5 million in damages to singer and actor Ali Zafar. The decision comes after years of legal proceedings between the two artists.
The case began in 2018 when Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of harassment on social media. In response, Ali Zafar filed a defamation suit, stating that the allegations harmed his reputation and career. Since then, the case has gone through 283 hearings in different courts.
After an eight-year-long legal battle, Additional Sessions Judge Asif Hayat ruled in favour of singer Ali Zafar. The sessions court reviewed the available evidence and arguments presented by both sides.
The court concluded that the claims made against Ali Zafar were not proven in a way that justified the public statements. As a result, it ordered financial compensation for damages.
Legal experts say this judgment is important because it highlights how courts in Pakistan handle defamation and harassment claims, especially those shared online.
Both Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar have the option to challenge the verdict in higher courts. So, the legal battle may not be over yet.
The case has remained in public focus for years and has sparked debate about accountability, evidence, and the role of social media in serious allegations.
