Sri Lanka is preparing to launch a special visa policy that could allow travelers from Pakistan and several other nations to visit without paying visa fees. The move is part of a six-month plan designed to support tourism and bring more visitors into the country.
Officials have confirmed that the proposal has already received cabinet approval and will now be presented to parliament for final clearance. Once approved, the scheme will be introduced for a limited period of six months.
According to government sources, the plan was first discussed and approved at a cabinet meeting held in July 2025. Nalinda Jayatissa, the cabinet spokesman, shared that the initiative aims to help rebuild the tourism sector, which plays a key role in the country’s economy.
Under this policy, passport holders from 39 countries will be eligible for free tourist visas. This includes major travel markets across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
