Donald Trump praised Pakistan’s leadership for helping facilitate talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, saying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir played an important role in bringing both sides to the negotiating table and easing regional tensions. He described Pakistan’s efforts as constructive and said its leadership helped create an environment where dialogue could take place during a sensitive period.
He stated that the discussions continued for nearly 20 hours and resulted in progress on several important matters. According to Trump, both delegations were able to narrow differences on certain issues and hold meaningful exchanges during the negotiations. However, he added that no final agreement was reached because of serious disagreements surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.
Trump emphasized that Iran’s unwillingness to fully step back from its nuclear ambitions remains the biggest obstacle to a complete breakthrough. Despite this, he acknowledged that the diplomatic process showed some positive signs and partial progress was made. He also noted that Pakistan’s mediation was significant in helping maintain communication between the two sides and keeping hopes alive for future talks.
