The Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen has introduced a new policy to give students more chances to pass their exams. Under this decision, students can now attempt their exams up to six times within a period of four years, instead of the previous limit of four attempts.
The updated policy will be effective from the 2024 annual examinations. It will apply to students studying under Punjab boards, including those appearing for Matric and Intermediate exams, as well as candidates from O and A Level backgrounds.
According to officials, all students will have to follow the current syllabus in each attempt. This rule will also apply to those who are reappearing in exams or trying to improve their marks after already passing. The aim is to ensure that all candidates are tested based on the same updated academic standards.
Education authorities said the decision has been taken to provide more flexibility to students who may need extra chances to succeed.
Many students face challenges such as health issues, personal difficulties, or academic pressure, which can affect their performance in exams. By increasing the number of attempts, the boards hope to reduce stress and give students a fair opportunity to achieve better results.
Experts believe this step will support students in completing their education without unnecessary pressure. It may also encourage more learners to continue their studies instead of dropping out due to limited chances.
Officials added that the policy reflects a student-friendly approach, focusing on improving academic outcomes and making the examination system more supportive and inclusive.
