Heatwave Alert! Temperatures Likely to Surge in Parts of Country, PMD

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave advisory, warning that temperatures are expected to increase noticeably across several parts of the country between April 29 and May 3. Officials said hot and dry weather is likely to dominate during this period, with some areas facing conditions well above seasonal averages. Citizens have been urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the heat intensifies.

According to the forecast, mild heatwave conditions are expected in southern parts of the country, including South Punjab, Upper Sindh, and Balochistan. Temperatures in these regions may remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal levels, with daytime highs in plain areas potentially reaching 43 to 45 degrees Celsius. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and wear light clothing to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Health experts have also warned that children, senior citizens, and people with existing medical conditions may be more vulnerable during extreme weather. Residents have been encouraged to ensure proper care for family members who may be at higher risk. Meanwhile, some upper areas of the country could experience temporarily cooler conditions due to passing westerly weather systems, which may bring brief relief in certain regions.
