Flash Flood Alert Issued for Tourist Areas in Northern Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that a moderate westerly weather system is entering the northern parts of the country, which may create dangerous weather conditions in several areas.

According to the forecast, this weather system could increase the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs), flash floods, and landslides in mountainous regions. The warning mainly applies to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Officials said the system is expected to bring widespread rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms. Some areas may also receive heavy rainfall, especially in mountain valleys and river catchment zones. These conditions could lead to sudden flooding and debris flow in vulnerable locations.

The areas at higher risk include Swat, Chitral, Dir, Kohistan, Hunza, Nagar, Shigar, and Astore. Authorities have advised people living in these regions to remain extra cautious during the weather spell.

Residents have been urged to stay away from rivers, streams, and low-lying areas to avoid any accidents. People are also being asked to move important belongings, livestock, and valuables to safer places if needed.

Officials have stressed the importance of staying alert and following safety instructions issued by local administrations.

Disaster management teams have been placed on high alert to respond quickly in case of emergencies. Rescue and relief agencies are also preparing to handle possible flood situations and support affected communities.

Meteorological experts say such weather systems are common in the northern regions during seasonal changes, but climate conditions can sometimes make them more intense and unpredictable.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as the weather system progresses. Citizens are advised to follow official warnings and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
