Traffic along the Karakoram Highway has been suspended at multiple points following continuous rainfall that triggered landslides and flash flooding in several areas of Shangla and adjoining northern regions.
According to initial reports, heavy downpours destabilized slopes along mountainous stretches, causing rocks, mud, and debris to slide onto the roadway. These blockages have disrupted vehicular movement on key sections of the highway, particularly routes connecting travelers toward upper northern destinations, including Gilgit-Baltistan.
Authorities have advised commuters and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel until the weather improves and restoration work is completed. The situation has made travel extremely difficult in the affected areas, where poor visibility and ongoing rainfall are further slowing down clearance operations.
Rescue teams, along with highway maintenance crews, are currently engaged in removing debris and reopening blocked sections. Efforts are ongoing under challenging weather conditions to restore safe traffic flow and ensure the safety of passengers using the route.
