Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued strict directives in response to the tragic death of a three-year-old girl in Faisalabad, ordering immediate accountability measures and stronger enforcement of public safety standards across the province.
Following the incident, she warned that owners and administrators of private housing societies could face arrest if any citizen is harmed after falling into uncovered or improperly secured manholes. The move is aimed at preventing further negligence-related accidents and ensuring that basic infrastructure safety is taken seriously by all developers and management bodies.
She further instructed divisional commissioners to introduce a system of monthly affidavits from housing societies, requiring them to officially confirm that all manholes within their jurisdictions are properly covered, secured, and safe for public use. In addition, widespread notices will be issued across Punjab to ensure full compliance with safety regulations and to raise awareness among housing authorities regarding their responsibilities.
During a separate review meeting on ongoing development projects, the chief minister stressed the importance of active field monitoring by government officials instead of relying solely on desk-based reporting. She emphasized that on-ground inspections are essential to ensure transparency, quality control, and timely completion of public works.
She also approved several welfare-oriented initiatives to be financed through district-level revenues, aiming to improve local service delivery and support community development projects across various regions of Punjab.
