Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan is reportedly emerging as one of the leading candidates to become the national team’s next T20 International captain as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reviews its leadership plans following the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
According to multiple media reports, the PCB is considering changes in the T20I setup after Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the tournament. Current captain Salman Ali Agha has come under pressure after the team failed to meet expectations, leading to growing speculation about a possible leadership change. Reports suggest that Shadab Khan and Shaheen Shah Afridi are among the frontrunners for the role, with Shadab currently seen as a strong contender.
Shadab brings valuable leadership experience to the position. He has previously captained Pakistan in T20 Internationals and has also led teams in domestic and franchise cricket. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball, along with his experience in pressure situations, has strengthened his case for the captaincy.
The 27-year-old remains one of Pakistan’s most successful T20 players. He is the country’s leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals and has consistently played an important role as an all-rounder. During the recent T20 World Cup, Shadab also made useful contributions with the bat and remained one of the team’s key performers.
Former captain Shahid Afridi has also publicly backed Shadab as a future leader, further fueling speculation about a possible change in leadership.
However, no official announcement has been made by the PCB, and a final decision regarding Pakistan’s T20I captaincy is still awaited.
