Lahore has marked a significant milestone in its journey toward sustainable transportation with the launch of the city’s first high-capacity 180kW electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging station on Shami Road. The development is being seen as an important step in strengthening the infrastructure needed to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles across Pakistan.
The charging station was officially inaugurated with the support of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), which played a key role in the project by ensuring a fast-track grid connection and providing the necessary technical assistance to make the facility operational in a short time. Officials from LESCO stated that the project highlights the company’s commitment to modernizing the country’s energy infrastructure and aligning with global clean energy trends.
With the ability to charge electric vehicles at much faster speeds than conventional stations, the new facility is expected to significantly reduce waiting times for EV users and improve convenience for daily commuters. Experts believe such developments could help boost consumer confidence in electric mobility and encourage more people to shift away from fuel-powered vehicles.
Authorities also indicated that this is only the beginning, with plans already in motion to establish more fast-charging stations in different parts of Lahore and other major cities.
