Safety First! Riding Without a Helmet in Punjab Could Get Your Bike Seized for One Day

Punjab has started a stricter campaign to improve road safety. Motorcyclists caught riding without a helmet may now face not only a fine but also the seizure of their motorcycle for one full day. This tough new measure aims to reduce serious accidents and save lives on the busy roads of the province.

Traffic police officials say many accidents happen because riders do not wear helmets. By impounding bikes, the government hopes to create stronger awareness and force people to follow safety rules. The fine for not wearing a helmet is usually around Rs. 2,000, but the extra penalty of bike seizure is meant to make the rule more effective.

Along with helmet checks, authorities are also cracking down on lane discipline violations. Drivers changing lanes suddenly or driving in the wrong lane will face strict action. In addition, Punjab has introduced a new digital challan system that includes photo and video evidence. Riders receive an SMS with a link to see the proof of their violation.

These steps are part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to make roads safer through better enforcement and technology. Officials urge all motorcyclists to wear helmets and follow traffic rules to avoid trouble and protect themselves and their families.
