Punjab Ends 10-Year Pension Limit! Widows to Receive Lifetime Pension Again

The Punjab government has restored the lifetime pension policy for widows of deceased government employees. Under the new decision, the previous rule that limited pension payments to 10 years has been removed, allowing eligible widows to receive pension benefits for the rest of their lives.

According to the revised policy, unmarried daughters of deceased government employees who meet the eligibility criteria will also continue to receive pension benefits. The decision is intended to provide long-term financial support to families who have lost a government-employed family member.

The updated rules also explain how pensions will be distributed in certain situations. If a deceased government employee had more than one wife, the pension will be divided equally among all eligible widows. However, if a widow remarries, her pension benefits will end under the revised policy.

The decision was approved during a Punjab cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Following the cabinet’s approval, the Punjab Finance Department issued an official notification to implement the restored pension policy.

Officials said the revised policy aims to strengthen financial security for the families of deceased government employees. They believe lifetime pension support will help eligible beneficiaries manage their living expenses and provide greater financial stability over the long term.

The government described the move as part of its efforts to improve welfare policies and support families facing financial challenges after the loss of a government employee. The restoration of lifetime pensions is expected to benefit many eligible widows and unmarried daughters across the province.

Authorities have advised eligible beneficiaries to contact the relevant government departments for information about the revised rules and the implementation process.

The updated pension policy has now been officially restored and will apply according to the conditions outlined in the government notification.
