The Punjab Bar Council has issued notices to more than 100 hotels and restaurants across Punjab. The council has ordered them to stop dressing their staff in uniforms that look like the official dress of lawyers.
According to the Punjab Bar Council, some hotels and restaurants were using black coats, white shirts, and similar clothing for waiters and other staff. This practice can confuse people and make them think the staff members are advocates or judges. The council said it received many complaints about this issue.
Businesses have been asked to immediately stop using such uniforms. They must also explain why they were using these clothes and provide details of the employees involved. The council warned that if the practice continues, legal action can be taken against the owners, directors, shareholders, and even the employees.
Chairman Abbas Ali Chadhar said the step is meant to protect the dignity and identity of the official dress worn by advocates and judges. He clarified that the move is not about giving special treatment to lawyers but about keeping the professional identity of the legal community clear.
The Punjab Bar Council has made it clear that only enrolled advocates are allowed to wear the official legal attire.
