Pakistan and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) have agreed in principle to help grow cricket in Iran. The support will include technical help, coaching programmes, umpire training and player development schemes.
The decision came from a meeting between Hussein Mokhtari, President of the Iran Cricket Association, and Mohsin Naqvi, who is Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and President of the ACC.
During the talks, both sides discussed ways to build stronger cricket links between the two countries. They focused on practical steps that Pakistan and the ACC can take to speed up the sport’s progress in Iran. Key areas include sharing technical knowledge, training coaches and umpires, and improving the skills of Iranian players.
The plan aims to improve Iran’s cricket facilities and give the game a stronger base across the country. Officials believe that using Pakistan’s experience and the ACC’s regional support will help Iran develop better structures and produce more competitive teams.
This move continues efforts to expand cricket in Asian countries that are still building the sport. Pakistan has previously offered similar help to other nations in the region. The new partnership with Iran is expected to open more opportunities for joint training, knowledge sharing and long-term growth of cricket beyond traditional strongholds.
Once the details are finalised, both sides hope the cooperation will raise the standard of the game in Iran and create closer sporting ties between the neighbouring countries.
