A civil court in Karachi has ordered Civil Hospital Karachi to pay Rs 6.5 million in compensation to a woman who suffered serious health problems after undergoing surgery at the hospital.
Senior Civil Judge South ruled in favour of Najma Rizwan, who had filed a compensation case against the hospital. The court directed the hospital administration to pay the amount within 60 days.
According to details presented in court, Rizwan was admitted to Civil Hospital Karachi on November 3, 2015, for childbirth. She underwent surgery and gave birth to her baby before being discharged on November 6.
Her condition reportedly worsened after she returned home. She experienced ongoing abdominal pain and swelling and later sought medical care at another facility. According to her lawyer, doctors there found that an incorrect surgical procedure had been performed at Civil Hospital.
The woman’s legal counsel argued that the alleged negligence during the operation caused further health problems and prolonged physical suffering. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court accepted her compensation claim and awarded Rs 6.5 million in damages.
