Punjab is working on a major artificial intelligence plan that aims to make it the most AI-enabled province in South Asia by 2029. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved Punjab’s first AI Roadmap in March 2026, with AI planned for government services, the economy, education, agriculture and citizen services.
The plan includes an AI Delivery Unit, which officials describe as the first of its kind, to help government departments use AI in their work. An AI Technical Advisory Board will also guide the programme with support from local and international experts.
The government expects the plan to create more than 100,000 jobs within three years. It also estimates that wider use of AI could increase Punjab’s GDP by 5% to 10% and raise foreign exchange earnings by $10 billion to $20 billion.
Punjab is also developing AI infrastructure, including an AI Data Center and Financial Data Warehouse at Nawaz Sharif IT City. The province has further allocated Rs 2 billion for AI infrastructure in the 2026-27 budget.
