Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has indicated that Egypt could potentially join the Mecca Defense Agreement, opening the possibility of wider regional cooperation on defence and security.
The agreement currently brings Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye together in a framework focused on strengthening military ties and improving coordination between the participating countries.
Erdogan’s comments suggest that Türkiye is considering a broader role for regional partners within the arrangement. If Egypt becomes part of the agreement, the partnership could gain greater regional significance and bring another major Muslim-majority country into the defence framework.
